Can-Save, a building specialty product distributor needed a system that
would deliver the speed and accuracy of their shipping process. The
combination of AccountMate and Executive Concepts solved their
problems and exceeded their expectations.
The Challenge
Facing stiff competition from larger national distributors, Can-Save
needed to implement an updated accounting and inventory control
software system to help solve their inventory control issues while
reducing operating costs.
Can-Save needed to deliver more merchandise accurately and quickly
without increasing labor costs. This included having the right
merchandise at the right time to satisfy customer needs, getting the right
goods to the right customer at the first time and reducing the number of
backorder situations.
Can-Save wanted to build the solution on a platform that they would not
quickly outgrow. They had aggressive plans to provide more and better
tools to their users and needed to know that the system would be
flexible, powerful and reliable.
The Solution
Executive Concepts reviewed the various options that were available to
Can-Save and determined that AccountMate SQL provided the
foundation on which they could meet their objectives. The solution not
only included the base functionality that they needed, it also was
designed specifically to take advantage of Microsoft's SQL Database
utilizing stored procedures and triggers.
The source code availability of the AccountMate solution allowed
Executive Concepts to enhance the system to meet the unique
requirements of Can-Save while reducing manual effort. Executive
Concepts delivered enhanced pricing logic, their Distribution
Requirements Planning (DRP) module and automated handling of custom
and direct ship orders.
A major part of the overall solution for Can-Save was the implementation
of ACCU-DART. ACCU-DART provides real time radio frequency access
directly into the AccountMate functionality. Warehouse staff can easily
and securely receive goods, pick orders, ship merchandise and perform
various other functions, from anywhere in the facility. Not only does
ACCU-DART perform all the real time validations required, it also posts
directly to the AccountMate system.
The Results
While the Can-Save system continues to evolve and grow as the
business changes, they have seen some excellent results from the
system. Through the increased accuracy of the data in the system and
the use of Distribution Requirements Planning, Can-Save raised their fill
rates from 87% to over 96%. At the same time ACCU-DART is verifying
that they are shipping the right merchandise the first time, thus further
increasing customer satisfaction.
All Can-Save staff have immediate access to an accurate and timely
information system. Management, customer service, purchasing,
accounting and warehouse operations are all making better decision with
less effort. Can-Save has been able to achieve substantial growth in the
business while keeping costs in line. According to Can-Save's Dan
